The importance of World Oral Health Day for oral HCW and patients

March 20, 2025
World Oral Health Day is an opportunity to educate patients about their oral health, as well as to celebrate the important work of oral health-care providers.

I spent some time with Karen Davis, BSDH, RDH, an independent consultant for Philips Oral Healthcare and the founder of Cutting Edge Concepts, for a recent Chairside Connection chat.

She views WOHD as a day not just to remind patients about the importance of oral health, but to celebrate ourselves as oral care providers and educators. We do very important work, and we can use WOHD as a starting point for discussing the importance of good oral health with patients.

Our knowledge about oral care and the oral-systemic link has greatly increased during the last few years, and we need to share that knowledge with our patients. Philips provides many resources for us to use to help convey educational information in very understandable ways. Karen talks about some of the tools she prefers.

Watch what Karen and I discuss and what advice she has to share with her peers. Also, happy World Oral Health Day! Celebrate you! And here's a helpful infographic for dental pros that explains some of what's in the toolkit.
