Chairside Connection: Practice-building strategies during nationwide staffing shortage

May 4, 2023
Philips KOL Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz discuss what's made their team members happy through the years, and their practices successful.

Involve your team and bond with them. They also appreciate being rewarded. These are a few of the straightforward directives that have worked for Dr. Mark Hyman, key opinion leader at Philips Oral Healthcare, and his staff.

During this ongoing dental staffing shortage, hanging on to the team you've got is more important than ever. Dr. Hyman retained his team members for so many years because he figured out what made them feel invested in their positions.

Involve them in the creation of the mission statement and any hiring process. Give positive feedback whenever appropriate. Cross-train them, communicate clearly with them, and of course, listen to what they have to say as well.

Dr. Hyman provided shopping perks, lunch perks, complimentary dental care for staff and close family members, and more. He declared that it's ridiculous to expect them to work every moment that you're in the office, and then take set vacations. The team have lives!

This is just the tip of the iceberg in our discussion. Watch what else Dr. Hyman has to say, then get ready for your team to settle in for the long haul.
