SATELEC, a subsidiary of the SATELEC-PIERRE ROLLAND Group which specializes in equipment, pharmaceuticals, and sundries for the dental surgeon, has received approval from the FDA for its dental electro-analgesia system, TEAM UP.
TEAM UP is said to save many patients from needing chemical anesthesia, known to many patients as "the shot."
Stringest clinical studies of TEAM UP, under a protocol which systematically excludes any influence by a placebo effect, have shown that 80 percent of patients notice a degree of comfort unmatched by other methods.
TEAM UP, which is patented in most parts of the world, is designed according to the principle of electro-analgesia, consisting of sending a continuous low intensity micro-current via the scaler tip. This results in hyperpolarization of the dentinal nerve fiber membranes, thereby impending transmission of the pain message.
TEAM UP's uniqueness lies in the fact that the micro-current is applied directly upon contact with the the nervous fibers in the dental tissue, contrary to other methods which use transcutaneous neuro-stimulation which can cause patients a residual prickling sensation or even sometimes brief facial paralysis. With TEAM UP, the analgesic effect only lasts during the procedure and requires no hindering electrodes to be applied to the skin because the instrument itself induces the analgesic effect.
Furthermore, the patient chooses the right intensity of micro-current applied by means of a control button on the device which he or she holds during the procedure and adjusts as necessary according to his or her personal pain threshold.
