Tuesday Tip from Pride Institute: Have you held your 'drum roll' meeting with your dental team?

Feb. 17, 2015
The "drumroll" meeting with your dental team will make the goals for 2015 clear and concise, and will help keep the team's enthusiasm on track so that goals are met throughout the year.

It’s early in the new year, so I’m hoping that almost all of you have held or scheduled a “drum roll if you please” meeting with your team. The purpose of the “drum roll” meeting is to gain a consensus on the goals and strategies for success during 2015.

The problem with being a practice that is interested in continuous improvement and new success is that it’s way too easy to burn out and fall back into the inertia abyss. That abyss may sound like, “Let’s just keep doing what we’re doing,” or “Let’s just tweak a few things and have a slightly better year,” or “We should be able to increase by 3% because of our fee increase.” Having just gone through the thrill of victory and agony of defeat season of San Francisco 49er football, I can personally attest to the fact that Super Bowls are not won when there’s simply a desire to get to the playoffs.

The reason sports get fans so excited is because there’s always a new pinnacle to reach every year. Stanley Cup, World Series, or Super Bowl winners immediately set their sights on doing the almost impossible (according to the stats books) and trying to regain the trophy the following year. The fans passionately follow suit. Notice I used the word passion, because if passion and enthusiasm and efforts above and beyond are to take place in your practice, you have to strive for new levels of achievement and success, always, always, always!

It takes creativity and willingness to risk, set new goals for exciting achievement, and guide your team to the top. A meeting to set the goal of “a future so bright you gotta wear shades,” along with a strategy to get there from the first through the fourth quarter, is how to inspire a winning team. Then you have to test, track, and adjust your strategy throughout the year, keeping an eye on the prize.
