The Dental Office Manager Digest column “Dear Boss” is designed for office managers to be able to speak their minds by anonymously writing a “letter” to their boss. Send your letters to [email protected]. Depending on how many are received, your letter may take a while to appear in DOMD.
Dear Boss,
With the holidays right around the corner, I can't help but wonder if you'll be handing out a small token of appreciation to your staff. We stuck by you through a pandemic, and we continue to help build up your practice every single day. In the past, we haven't received a Christmas bonus, even when we reached record high goals for the office, and that baffled us. Any appreciation would have been nice throughout my years of service; a gift basket, a Starbucks gift card, or maybe even a dinner on you, Dr. Scrooge.
I think if there is a perfect time to redeem your Grinch-like behavior, this year is it. We've all been working extremely hard to make up for the time and money lost during the year. I've had to wear many hats due to us being short-staffed and losing a lot of the team. I’ve had to train multiple under-qualified people throughout the year to make up for that lack of staff. Every day is a constant struggle, and knowing in the back of my mind that it won’t be appreciated just makes me wonder why am I still here.
I would hope that this year you will reflect on everything that’s happened and be grateful. Don’t go into the new year without an appreciation for the people in your office who've worked diligently to keep it afloat.
Sincerely,
There's room for everyone on the nice list
