The latest salary figures are out from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and once again it appears that working in our nation’s capital is a good thing for your pocketbook.
As was the case in 2009, dental assistants in Washington, D.C., were paid more than their counterparts from any other part of the country. The 2010 statistics show assistants in Washington, D.C., earning $47,360 per year, while Alaska dental assistants once again were the second highest paid, coming in at $42,020 annually. However, not all is well in Alaska, as that number is down from the $43,670 reported in 2009.
Granted, a high salary is great, but we also know that there is a high cost of living associated with living in our nation’s capital, Alaska, and other areas throughout the country. That’s why salary is just one of the indicators we use in DAD's annual “best places to be a dental assistant” article. Look for that article in our next issue.
