The Dental Office Manager Digest column “Dear Boss” is designed for office managers to be able to speak their minds by anonymously writing a “letter” to their boss. Send your letters to [email protected]. Depending on how many are received, your letter may take a while to appear in DOMD.
Dear Boss:
I have worked in the dental office with your bratty son for more than three years. He was timid at first, but has since become such a terror that I've realized I cannot be here when he takes over. I've stood by your dental associate hires in the past and have put up with young dentists who've come and gone. The interviews you conducted with most of these associates made me wonder how you couldn't see their horrible personalities, but I made sure to stick it out and make the best of it. As time went on most of them ran off, but your son doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. He's always in the office being rude, making inappropriate comments to female staff members that border on sexual harassment. His behavior toward older patients is also rude, almost constituting elder abuse. You always joke that he will one day be my boss. Well, the joke's on you!
More "Dear Boss":
- Dear Boss: You're a mean one
- Dear Boss: The pandemic truly brought out the worst in you
- Dear Boss: It pays to treat your employees with respect
Now that he's graduated from dental school and finished his residency, I understand the time has come for you to bring him in full-time as an associate, and I cannot and will not be a part of this office anymore. I know my value, and I'll go work for someone else who can provide a safe environment and job security. Your son and I have had several disagreements and I can't see myself working with him, now or in the near future.
I'm sorry things have to end this way, but for me, it's for the best.
Good luck to you and your son,
