Taking the next step toward seamless digital denture production, Ivoclar Vivadent introduced Ivotion, a monolithic, single-disc milling solution, at the 2020 Chicago Midwinter Meeting.
Ivotion combines high-quality tooth and denture base materials in a single bicolor disc. It provides digital laboratories with an efficient, predictable, monolithic milling solution.
"Ivotion will completely change the world of digital dentures,” says Diego Gabathuler, CEO of Ivoclar Vivadent. “It is an absolute breakthrough innovation and the next big step for digital dentistry that will enhance the production efficiency of dental laboratories without sacrificing quality and esthetics."
The Ivotion monolithic milling disc features unique Shell Geometry, a data-based three-dimensional tooth and dental arch structure suitable for the rapid digital fabrication of removable upper and lower dentures. Based on the data of time-tested complete dentures that are in service, Shell Geometry defines the transition between the tooth and the denture base sections of the disc.
Integrated exclusively into 3Shape Dental System 2020 CAD software, the digital denture system allows patient-specific customization with the Ivotion tooth library and the coordinated Shell Geometry. Efficient design strategies offer the freedom to customize and morph the shape of individual teeth for patient-specific dentures, eliminating the denture tooth-bonding process. Dentures are milled in the PrograMill milling unit in one uninterrupted milling process and only need polishing prior to delivery.
With the launch of the Ivotion disc, the digital denture solutions of Ivoclar Vivadent are incorporated in the Ivotion Denture System. Within this system the materials and process solutions from Ivoclar Vivadent are seamlessly combined with the scanning and software solutions of 3Shape and merged into a single streamlined process. They link the clinical treatment steps with the digital fabrication in the laboratory.
Canadian denturist Eric Kukucka tested Ivotion during its development and presented the new solution at LMT Lab Day. "The disc is really fascinating," Kukucka says. "So far, I’ve been able to test every patient case successfully. The process is very efficient and the results are remarkable."
The new Ivotion disc is expected to be available in May 2020. Concurrent and together with this new monolithic milling process, all other exclusive digital denture workflows such as the oversize milling process of Ivoclar Vivadent will be integrated into the 3Shape Dental System 2020, starting with the release planned for May 2020.
