Medical History Mysteries: Update on the electronic prescriptions mandate

Jan. 20, 2022
Drs. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz and Tom Viola talk about the e-prescribing mandate as it stands now, what to watch for, and recommendations for implementing it into your dental practice.

Welcome to Medical History Mysteries 2.0—our second year! It’s so great to be here again with Dr. Tom Viola.

So, what’s the deal with the electronic prescriptions mandate?

Dr. Viola says that prior to the pandemic, all prescribing was destined to be electronic. Controlled substances were already required to be e-prescribed, so many dental offices decided to head in that same direction for all their scripts.

Once the pandemic arrived, everything stopped. Now, as of 2021/2022, it’s not so much at the federal level, but some states (like California) have taken the lead and begun to mandate that all prescriptions must be prescribed electronically.

Mandates vary depending on the state. Since dentists sometimes tend work on an island in their practices, it’s important to find out exactly what’s required for your state and your practice.

Join us in this episode of Medical History Mysteries to learn more about e-prescribing as it stands now and recommendations about software for e-prescribing.

We’re excited about what 2022 has in store!
