May 28, 2002
Under this multi-year agreement, Sulzer Dental will be the exclusive distributor for abutments with their patented Spline® and tapered friction-fit implant interfaces and a non-exclusive distributor for other Atlantis Abutments.

Sulzer Dental Inc., a leader in the dental implant industry, and Atlantis Components, Inc., the developer of computer designed, patient-specific abutments, today announced that the two companies have entered into an agreement in which Sulzer Dental will provide worldwide distribution of Atlantis Abutments. Under this multi-year agreement, Sulzer Dental will be the exclusive distributor for abutments with their patented Spline® and tapered friction-fit implant interfaces and a non-exclusive distributor for other Atlantis Abutments.

Using a patented process invented by Prosthodontist Dr. Julian Osorio, Atlantis employs 3D optical scanning, automated design software and integrated machining to generate individualized abutments. The Atlantis restorative solution can provide a more anatomically correct abutment earlier in the healing cycle, thereby creating a more esthetic and potentially faster solution for the patient. "Advanced esthetics and immediacy are growing trends in the dental implant industry. The Atlantis opportunity provides Sulzer Dental with an efficient entry into the mass customization market", says Steven Hanson, President of Sulzer Dental. Sulzer Dental will immediately begin preparations for the launch of this technology this summer.

Regarding the relationship, James G. Hannoosh, Ph.D., Atlantis' CEO, states, "there is a good strategic fit between Sulzer Dental and Atlantis and I am pleased to add this valuable distribution channel to our existing sales model. Both companies share the vision regarding the role of the Atlantis technology in simplifying implant restorations ? Atlantis offers the technological platform and Sulzer Dental the sales and marketing expertise."

"The combination of Sulzer's implant platforms with patient-specific restorations supplied by Atlantis is the next logical progression in the continued evolution of implant dentistry", according to Dr. Scott D. Ganz, a noted lecturer on dental implants and restorations. He adds, "Atlantis provides a simple, yet elegant, solution that benefits both the novice and expert clinician through unparalleled accuracy and consistency."

Additionally, Sulzer Medica, the parent company of Sulzer Dental, is adopting a new name. Beginning on June 1, Sulzer Medica will operate under the "Centerpulse" brand. The name change is a legal consequence of last year's spin-off from Swiss parent company, Sulzer AG, and now signifies the independence of the globally active medical technology company in its communications, too. Sulzer Dental is a division of Centerpulse, and will change its name to Centerpulse Dental.
