From the Director

Dear Colleagues,

Can you believe that summer is coming to a close? Children and parents are either back at school or getting ready to go back to school, and dental practices are going into the fourth quarter. How are the goals you set for the year turning out? Has the economy affected your practice? I have learned that many practices are focusing on increasing education this year. What a valuable use of time. In case you are seeing declining numbers, I’m including an article about keeping patients happy, and some tips for case presentation. Since the last issue if DAD I have attended some milestone educational meetings.

One I'm sure you heard about was PennWell's RDH Under One Roof. What a meeting! I was honored to be part of such a great event. Be sure to check the links for videos and information from Under One Roof. The ADIA was happy to make a donation to the Oral Cancer Foundation, and it was personally moving to have my dad involved in the festivities and pick the winners for the raffles. (You can read more about my dad's battle with oral cancer next month.) Thank you all for your prayers and support for him.

The ICOI and ADIA also held our World Congress XXVI in beautiful Vancouver. The weather was perfect and the lectures superb. Thank you to all who made the meeting a success. A great big thank you goes to our meeting sponsors — BioHorizons, SomnoMed, 3M, Salvin Dental Specialties, and Hu-Friedy. This meeting honored Dr. Roland Meffert for his contributions to implant dentistry and the ICOI. In his honor, Hu-Friedy donated an Implacare^® and Colorvue^® kit to all meeting attendees. The ADIA held a wonderful hands-on session with 12 workshops for participants. The feedback was outstanding, and we look forward to hosting another one soon.

To the meeting planners, speakers, and exhibitors at these wonderful symposia, thank you for your hard work and a job well done. The profession is wiser because of your contributions.
