The American Dental Association (ADA) announces the election of a new president-elect, second vice president and trustee during the San Antonio meeting of the ADA House of Delegates.
Maxine Feinberg, DDS., a who practices periodontics in Cranford, N.J., is the new president of the ADA. Carol Summerhays, DDS., a general dentist in San Diego, is the new president-elect. Thomas W. Gamba, DDS, who practices general dentistry in Philadelphia, was elected second vice president and Lindsey A. Robinson, DDS, a Grass Valley, Calif., a pediatric dentist, was installed as a trustee.ADA president Maxine Feinberg, DDS
Dr. Feinberg is the third female to serve as the president of the 158,000-member organization.
Prior to becoming the ADA’s president, Dr. Feinberg served as president elect from 2013 to 2014. A longtime ADA member, Dr. Feinberg’s previous positions in organized dentistry have included serving as Fourth District Trustee to the ADA House of Delegates and as president of the New Jersey Dental Association, the first woman to serve in that position. She also served as president of the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry and as a delegate in both the ADA and New Jersey Dental Association’s House of Delegates.
Dr. Feinberg is a fellow in the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
A graduate of New York University and the New York University College of Dentistry, Dr. Feinberg lives in Westfield, N.J., with her husband, John Wynne, and daughters, Haley and Rebecca.
Dr. Summerhays graduated from the University of San Francisco with a bachelor’s degree in biology and earned her dental degree from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1978. She attended dental school on a full scholarship through the Armed Forces Health Professions program. Dr. Summerhays served four years on active duty in the Navy Dental Corps and 11 years of inactive duty rising to the rank of lieutenant. She started a full time private practice in 1982.
She is a Fellow of the American College of Dentistry, the International College of Dentistry, the Academy of Dentistry International, the AGD and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Additionally, she earned a Master in the AGD and the AGD LLSR Lifelong learning and Service Recognition Award.
In San Diego, Dr. Summerhays was honored in 2010 by the Salvation Army as one of the “Women of Dedication — Portraits in Philanthropy” and by the Girl Scouts as one of “San Diego’s 10 Cool Women.” She and her husband of 31 years, Soames, have two sons, Giles and Bryce.
ADA second vice president Thomas W. Gamba, DDSDr. Gamba has been an ADA member for more than 40 years and has served in many leadership positions within organized dentistry, including president of the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) and PDA Speaker of the House. He has also served on the ADA Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs and the Council on ADA Sessions.
Dr. Gamba is also a member of numerous professional dental organizations, including the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, Academy of General Dentistry and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Gamba graduated from Temple University's School of Dentistry in 1976 and currently teaches there. He has also published several articles on the importance of ethics in dental practice.
ADA Thirteenth District trustee Lindsey A. Robinson, DDS Dr. RobinsonDr. Robinson is a former president of the California Dental Association and the Butte-Sierra District Dental Society. She is also a founding board member of the US National Oral Health Alliance. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Dentistry, and earned a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Florida. She also earned fellowships with the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
