A new custom irrigator device touting professional-level efficacy in just seven seconds a day could prove life-changing for many people suffering from gum disease, say proponents.
Fresh Health has announced Proclaim, a custom-jet oral irrigator that uses intraoral scanning and 3D printing to create a customized mouthpiece with up to 60 pressurized jets. According to a company press release, the jets send pulsing water between the teeth and gumline, automating the irrigation system for patients at home.
The company also released results from a study on Proclaim’s efficacy for home care that comprised participants randomly assigned to control groups that did brushing only, brushing and flossing, and brushing and using Proclaim.
Results indicated participants who used Proclaim along with their regular brushing routine “showed highly significant improvements in all measures versus brushing plus daily flossing,” including showing 12.8 times more inflammation reduction, 8.9 more bleeding reduction, and 9.3 times more reduction in plaque level.
In the “hard-to-reach” interproximal areas, Proclaim was 13.2 times more effective in reducing gingival inflammation, 10 times more effective in reducing gingival bleeding, and 7.9 times more effective in reducing plaque levels, according to the press release.
Proponents say that device could prove life-changing for people suffering from some form of gum disease.
In the press release, Dr. Robert Eber, Clinical Professor and Director of Clinical Research at University of Michigan School of Dentistry, and Diplomate and Past Chair of the American Board of Periodontology, said that “The results of this clinical study prove that technological innovation can truly revolutionize and improve a routine, age-old practice with the push of a button. I predict it will positively impact hygiene behaviors and patient outcomes for generations to come.”
Dental professionals with access to an intraoral scanner who want to be considered to try out the Proclaim Custom-Jet Oral Irrigator or to offer it to their patients can visit Proclaim's website for more information.
