The APEX scholarship provides promising dental students with the chance to attend AACD’s annual conference at no charge. In 2012, students will have the opportunity to attend the 29th Annual AACD Scientific Session in Seattle April 24-27. The event offers students an interdisciplinary approach to cosmetic dentistry education, with lectures and hands-on workshops, social events, and networking opportunities.

“It was exciting to see dentistry done at a higher level than I’ve been exposed to in dental school,” said Taylor King, a 2012 APEX recipient. “It gives me a higher standard to try to achieve.”

With APEX, the AACD strives to give students learning opportunities outside the classroom.

“Attending the annual scientific session can be a life-changing experience for a dental student,” said Ron Goodlin, AACD President.

“At the session, dental students are inspired and motivated by the workshops and lectures they attend, in addition to meeting many of the industry’s most respected professionals. APEX gives them a chance to learn outside a traditional classroom setting, which will help them become better-rounded in the future.”

The AACD APEX Student Scholarship includes:

• Registration fees to the annual scientific session ($125 undergraduate)
• Round-trip coach-class airfare (up to a $500 value)
• Hotel accommodations for the annual scientific session ($1,000 value)
• One year of AACD membership ($20 undergraduate)

Dental students are eligible to apply for the scholarships, and will be judged on academic achievement, and their understanding of and commitment to the future of cosmetic dentistry. The deadline for applications is Feb. 3, 2013.

To apply, students must submit:

• a completed scholarship application (available at www.aacd.com/apex)
• two letters of recommendation
• an essay (500-1,000 words) on the social or scientific value of cosmetic dentistry

Applications will be accepted and reviewed by an AACD-assigned review committee for consideration.
