SmartPractice Announces Purchase of Japanese Distributors

Jan. 9, 2004
Company's strategy focuses on helping dentists improve the economic performance of their clinics while improving the health of their patients.

SmartPractice, which operates in Tokyo as SmartPracticeJapan has purchased Alphamedical, Inc. and Nippon Dental Supply, formerly the Nikkiso Dental Equipment Division of Nikkiso Co., Ltd.

The purchase of these two Japanese distributors is part of SmartPractice's aggressive growth plans in foreign dental markets selling marketing materials, infection control and clinical products to dentists, dental laboratories and distributors in Japan. Leveraging 35 years of North American business together with 23 years of experience in Japan is expected to produce double digit year over year growth over the next 5 years.

An over supply of Japanese dentists combined with a prolonged recession is forcing the dental professional to become more customer focused in order to prosper. SmartPractice is the market leader in creative communication products designed to increase frequency of patient visits and acceptance of optimal treatment plans. "Helping dentists improve the economic performance of their clinics while simultaneously improving the dental health of their patients" is consistent with the SmartPractice mission, says Curt Hamann M.D., CEO. Familiar syndicated characters like Snoopy and Garfield used to deliver the preventive health reminders provide a continued growth opportunity. Assisting the dentist in understanding world class infection control standards and providing the appropriate products will continue to improve healthcare practice among clinicians in Japan and revenue growth for SmartPracticeJapan. Catalogs to the 75,000 practicing dentists with a broad offering of clinical and marketing products will be the primary strategy to leverage the successful legacies of these combined companies.
