ADA accepting applications for its 2005 Institute for Diversity in Leadership
The American Dental Association (ADA) is accepting applications for the 2005 ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership, a personal development program to help enhance the leadership skills of dentists from traditionally underrepresented racial, ethnic, and/or gender groups.
The institute's goal is to provide a diverse group of dentists with the skills necessary to improve their ability in becoming effective leaders within the profession and their communities. Dentists selected to participate will have the opportunity to interact with ADA leadership, dental industry executives and staff from other non-profit organizations.
Participants will attend three, two-day leadership training workshops at ADA's Chicago headquarters on September 8-9 and December 12-13, 2005, with a final session September 7-8, 2006. Faculty from the top-ranked Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University will lead the workshops.
As part of the program, participants also will complete a personal leadership project that will give them hands-on experience at identifying a civic or professional issue and gathering the resources needed to take action.
There is no tuition or fees to participate in the Institute. The ADA will cover travel expenses to Chicago for the three training sessions. In addition, a stipend is available to help offset costs associated with implementing the personal leadership project. Applicants must be active, licensed dentists in practice for at least five years and not held any significant leadership role in organized dentistry.
