This Month's Featured Courses Wednesday, July 29, 2009 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Lillian J. Caperilla, RDH, Med
The dental professional is currently recognizing the need to implement an effective protocol in the appropriate assessment, identification and management of dental caries. A learning process now exists to make significant changes in evidence-based, individualized care. The patient demographics regarding dental caries have shifted to include all age groups. As a result, the choice of therapy reflects a need to utilize non-invasive technology to improve our ability to detect and control the caries process. The program will encourage the dental team to utilize effective surveys to classify a client's caries risk assessment. The risk level provides a sound direction in patient education, enamel therapy and lifelong prevention steps. The latest ACP and ACP-driven technologies will be reviewed and discussed for the role they play in protecting the hard and soft structures of the oral cavity. Additionally, the participant will gain a better understanding of the synergistic effects that ACP has in fluoride uptake. 2 CE Credits. Commercial Support by: Premier Dental

General Session - Recent Advances in Caries Detection, Diagnosis and Risk Assessment: Implications for Sealant Placement
Margherita Fontana, DDS
Dental caries is an initially reversible, chronic disease process that occurs as an interaction between the biofilm and the tooth structure and subsurface. The manifestation of the stage of the process at one point in time is the caries lesion. Over the past 30 years the incidence and severity of caries have decreased in the United States, and caries assessment measures have shifted from an exclusive focus on frank, cavitated lesions to detection of earlier phases of demineralization. A review of visual/tactile methods and criteria (including the International Caries Detection and Assessment system), and indications for new detection methods based on fluorescence will be provided. 2 CE Credits. Keynote: Why Are Women So Strange and Men So Weird: How To Communicate Effectively With The Opposite Sex
Bruce Christopher, BA, MA, LP
At the heart of any practice is relationships; between team members, patients, and doctors. Interpersonal effectiveness has been demonstrated to be a key factor in professional, personal, and practice success. Individuals who are excellent communicators have better relationships at home and at work; they climb the ladder of professional prosperity more effectively, and they get results on the bottom-line for their practice. It is no doubt that communication runs your office! "Why Are Women So Strange & Men So Weird?" takes a very humorous look at how men and women think, speak, and make decisions differently. This program will increase your "Organizational Savvy" and make you more effective when communicating, motivating, managing, or presenting to the opposite sex. Studies have estimated that the average team member can waste up to 38% of their day dealing with communication mis-fires, unresolved conflicts, or hidden resentments in the office. Other reports have indicated that 70% of what you say is mis-understood by the opposite sex. This is not a productive use of time! You can revitalize performance and enhance morale by putting into practice the strategies outlined in this seminar. You will learn what makes the opposite sex tick and what you can do about it. Certainly, dentistry today is a co-ed effort; and you may not be as successful as you could be without understanding how to really communicate and connect with that opposite sex person on your team or in the chair. Least of all, by participating in this seminar, you will Laugh 'til you cry. . .and Learn 'til you change! 2 CE Credits. Commercial Support by: Philips Sonicare
