Check out the revamped National Dental Hygiene Month in October! For the 2008 celebration ADHA will continue with its theme "A Healthy Smile Lasts a Lifetime." But new to this year's celebration will be event-dedicated weeks!
First full week:
Hygienists' Appreciation Day — let your employer, patients, friends and family celebrate you! Choose a day of the week that works for all of you and celebrate what it means to be a hygienist and all of the wonderful work that you do.
Weeks two and three:
Community Service — we know that hygienists are volunteer oriented, but donate one more day of your time to a community service event and make your community a better place. Maybe you can team up with a co-worker, a friend, or a local dental hygiene program; remember to invite your legislator to remind them of your dedication.
Week four:
Take a Potential Member to Lunch — as an ADHA member, take a friend, or a co-worker who's not an ADHA member out to lunch. ADHA is the community for all dental hygienists. Show them the value, but remember, it's not a sales pitch— just a friendly gesture on behalf of yourself and the profession.
In previous years ADHA has focused on specific age groups for NDHM. This year we've opened it up, and decided to focus on the entire family from infant to geriatric oral health care.
ADHA is encouraging dental hygienists across the country to get involved in NDHM this October to increase public awareness of the importance of educating the entire family on the situations which impact their oral health.

ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 150,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.
