Optimism grows among U.S. dental manufacturers about business in southeast Asia

Feb. 3, 2010
The Sixth International Dental Exhibition and Meeting will be held April 16-18, 2010, in Singapore.

Early signups by U.S. dental manufacturers for IDEM Singapore 2010 indicate that the Pacific Rim region holds much promise for companies seeking to expand their sales into that region.

IDEM will take place for the sixth time from April 16-18, 2010.

The show covers the spectrum of dental medicine and dental technology-- from materials and instruments, prophylaxis products, pharmaceuticals to dental surgery and laboratory equipment.

The trade show will be accompanied by a high-level scientific conference program that will focus on the latest scientific trends and developments organized by the Singapore Dental Association.

Some 20 companies have signed up for the IDEM USA Pavilion organized by Koelnmesse.

"IDEM Singapore is an excellent marketing tool for U.S. companies who are committed to become players in the southeast Asian marketplace," said Weston Pettersen, international marketing manager, at Zimmer Dental. "We have been exhibiting at this event early on and think of it as the IDS of this region."

Richard Campos, international sales and marketing manager at Air Techniques, added: "When we entered the southeast Asian market six years ago, we could have easily sold our digital imaging systems directly to dental offices, but we resisted that temptation. Instead we successfully concentrated on finding distributors. Our sales to this region have grown continuously, and we are ready to display new product lines at the upcoming event."

Mette Petersen, president and managing director of Koelnmesse, Chicago, noted: "U.S. dental manufacturers are doing well in this part of the world. Currently, more than 30% of dental imports into Singapore come from the U.S. We expect 25 U.S. companies to take part at IDEM 2010, most of them will participate via our USA Pavilion."

More than 90% of the exhibit floor has been sold and show management expects around 390 companies and 7,000 visitors from the Pacific Rim region to be in attendance at the meeting. Attendees will be dealers, distributors, dentists, dental technicians, hygienists and dental students.

IDEM Singapore 2010 is one of the leading dental trade fairs in the southeast Asian region. International companies use IDEM to launch products by finding distribution in the ASEAN countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia.

National pavilions from many countries take advantage of this event, including large groups from Switzerland, the UK, Germany, Korea, and Taiwan.
