VITA and Vident served as the general sponsors recently for a meeting of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry.

SCAD, a consortium of dental professionals and other experts interested in the area of color and appearance in esthetic dentistry, held its meeting in Houston, Texas. More than 150 participants, from 19 countries representing several professions, gathered for the event.

"We gratefully acknowledge the role of the general sponsors, Vita Zahnfabrik and Vident, for the success of the meeting," explained Dr. Rade D. Paravina, president of SCAD.

"Their sponsorship allowed us to put on a world-class meeting as well as collaborate together to create a successful dental exhibition. Their support was deeply appreciated."

One of the goals of SCAD is to bring together like-minded individuals to promote and foster greater awareness for color and appearance in dentistry. At the meeting, SCAD brought clinical relevance to researches and scientific relevance to clinicians, as well as link clinicians, researchers, industry, and dental educators interested in color and appearance in esthetic dentistry.

The program featured keynote speaker, Dr. Robert C. Sproull. Known for his ideas of bringing color to the forefront of modern esthetic dentistry, Sproull's address focused on the history of color research in dentistry and the advancements that have been made over time.

The program also touched on a number of important topics presented by many top leaders in their field, including presentations on the science of color, the quantification of dental esthetics, visualization for successful esthetic predictability, hands-on color training, tooth whitening and resin composites.

The next SCAD meeting is scheduled for Sept. 24-25, 2010, in Newport Beach, Calif.
