ANNAPOLIS, Maryland--The Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures has announced the finalists for the I See IC competition for still photos and video clips promoting infection control and safety.
Winners will be announced at a "red carpet" event during the OSAP Symposium, which will take place June 12-15 at the Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, Calif. Voting will continue until May 15.
IC-car ("ICE-kar") Awards will be given for the winning entries in each category. In addition, the best overall still photo and best overall video clip will each receive $1,000.
For Best Drama, finalists are: "Infection Walks Loose," Joab Montes; "Shortcut to Disaster," Adalberto Abner Perez Flores; "The Wrong Use of Needles in the Dental Office," Beatriz Jiménez Martín; "Tragic Consequences--Be Aware--Infectious Scare," Rosely Paulina Ávila Rivas; and "Would you Like to be My Patient," Viridiana Castro Ortiz.
For Best Comedy, the finalists are: "A Touching Experience," Risa Simon; "All in a Day's Work," Andres Zuccolotto, "Always Prepared," Ismael Garcia Dueñez; "Beauty Pageant for Gloves," Leslie Canham; "Flash Floor," Risa Simon; and "Biohazard Line," Risa Simon.
For Best Infection Control Message, finalists are: "Dog Gone Handwash," John B. Tullner, DDS, FICD; "If the Bugs were Mud," Carmen Lorena Tagle Gallo; "Proper Placement of PPE," Philip Kim & Jasrit Pahal; "The Don'ts of Dentistry," Ivan Santos; and "What Kind of Dentist Are You," Jose Cedillo Felix.
For Most Creative, finalists are: "A Long Journey," Piedad Hernandez Ramirez; "Apparently Clean," Iraís Elizabeth Rodríguez Nito; "Are Both the Same," Rene Rodriguez Romero; and "Use It," Adriana Rojas.
Finalists in the Snapshot category are: "French Kiss!," Risa Simon; "Good From Far... Far From Good," Philip Kim & Jasrit Pahal; "Hand Washing," Jasrit Pahal and Philip Kim; "Her Highness," Sharon Reams; "IC (Not!) Collection," Doni Bird; "Let's Eat in: Instruments and Bagel," Patricia M. Pine; "Order Matters," Jasrit Pahal and Philip Kim; and "What Eyewear," Joyce Galligan.
OSAP received submissions from students, consultants, and dental professionals across the U.S. and from a number of other countries.
"The response was overwhelming," said Therese Long, OSAP executive director. "People were incredibly creative and went to an amazing amount of work. The contest exceeded our objectives in engaging younger dental professionals and really focusing attention on safe dental practices. We owe a lot to the 10 sponsors that had the vision to support this effort."
Contest sponsors are A-dec, Biotrol, Crosstex, Dux Dental, Nitram Division of Sirona, PDI, SciCan, Septodont, Sullivan-Schein, and Sultan Healthcare.
OSAP Symposium attendees will be able to attend the Red Carpet IC-cars awards ceremony. The finalists in each category will be screened during the meeting. Nominees in attendance will receive special IC-car gift bags.
