In light of the September 11 national tragedy in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, the California Dental Association Foundation (CDA Foundation) authorized $30,000 in relief contributions to assist with the recovery efforts. Employees, members, vendors, and tenants of the California Dental Association and its subsidiaries raised an additional $20,000 in matching gifts.
The CDA Foundation will contribute $35,000 of the gift to the New York County Dental Society Family Assistance Program to help the families of fallen police officers and firefighters with dental care needs; $10,000 to the New York Forensic Dental Society Relief Fund to assist with offsetting the costs associated with transporting California-based forensic dentist volunteers to and from New York; and $5,000 to the American Dental Association-American Tragedy Fund.
"The magnitude of this tragedy transcends every border," says Jon R. Roth, CAE, Foundation executive director, on the decision to support organizations outside of the Foundation's normal California-based giving program. "There are so many needs that we wanted to do our part to show the fortitude and philanthropy of the American spirit."
