Jan. 14, 2002
James D. Dwyer has been named the new president and chief executive officer of Washington Dental Service.

James D. Dwyer has been named the new president and chief executive officer of Washington Dental Service, the largest and oldest dental benefits company in the state of Washington and founding member of the national Delta Dental Plans Association.

Dwyer succeeds James Garrison, who is retiring after serving in the role since 1991. Dwyer is expected to officially take the helm of the company in February.

Washington Dental Service, with $500 million in annual revenues, is a health care service contractor serving more than 1.5 million people across the country who are covered by its dental benefit programs. Washington Dental Service partners with nine out of 10 dentists in Washington -- the largest dental network in the state -- to deliver Delta Dental Plans to approximately 1,400 employers. These customers include The Boeing Company, Costco Wholesale, Washington Mutual, the Washington Education Association and the state of Washington.

In addition to its commercial agenda, Washington Dental Service, as a 501 C4 nonprofit corporation, administers a $4 million public benefit and community outreach program to improve oral health through its Washington Dental Service Foundation.
