“As the nation’s largest dental benefits provider, Delta Dental companies are committed to improving dental health by supporting programs that focus on preventing dental disease, expanding access to dental care and advancing dental education and science,” said Chris Pyle, director of state government and public relations.

Donations went to support Missions of Mercy (two-day dental clinics that treat thousands of people free of charge), Head Start, scholarships for dental students, community water fluoridation, community health centers and charity dental clinics, mobile dental units that visit schools, oral health research, school sealant programs, and many other programs, touching the lives of millions of adults and children.

“June is National Smile Month, so it’s a good time to focus on the ways Delta Dental is working to protect smiles across the country,” said Pyle. “In addition to the programs we support on a regular basis, our member companies supported 157 new programs in 2010, including 85 that specifically aid children.”

These donations are part of larger national philanthropic initiatives in which Delta Dental companies have donated more than $298 million over the past six years. Visit www.deltadental.com/communitybenefit to learn more about Delta Dental’s community benefit activities.
