The Dental Office Manager Digest column “Dear Boss” is designed for office managers to be able to speak their minds by anonymously writing a “letter” to their boss. Send your letters to [email protected]. Depending on how many are received, your letter may take a while to appear in DOMD.
Dear Boss,
I just have to tell you how frustrating it is when your staff gangs up on me. They don't respect me, and the worst thing is that you are in charge of hiring. As the office manager I should be the one to hire and fire, but instead you allow these other staff members to harass me daily. Then, when I report their behavior, you turn a blind eye to it. You don't do anything and won't allow me to do anything because, as you say, "It's hard to find staff to work in the office nowadays" so you'd rather keep who we have.
More "Dear Boss":
- Dear Boss: It pays to treat your employees with respect
- Dear Boss: Thanks to your bratty son, I'm done
- Dear Boss: I don't live to work, I work to live
For example, the other day I went to my office to speak with a patient only to come back to the staff playing around and joking while I’m in the back office working hard trying to make sure salaries are paid and patients are happy. It's not fair and I think you need to allow me to hire the staff I feel would be best for the office.
Another issue is when I ask for a day off and you don’t want to give it to me because you can’t trust the front desk staff by themselves. It’s ridiculous and embarrassing how you have behaved toward me, and it's only getting worse.
If things don’t change, I will have to leave.
