Center for Dental Technology offers first workshop

The Georgia Institute of Technology announces its first workshop for restorative dentists and their dental assistants. The three-day workshop, titled "Clinical Advancement in Dental Materials, Techniques and Technology in the fee-for-service practice of Restorative Dentistry," addresses "A critical understanding for advanced patient care." The course is scheduled for Dec. 12 through 14, 2003, at Georgia Tech's new Global Learning Center in Atlanta, GA. The workshop is a collaborative effort between Georgia Tech's Center for Dental Technology and the Medical College of Georgia's School of Dentistry. Unique Workshop Offers Rare Opportunity for Dentists
Attendees will learn new clinical procedures and materials in "Fixed Restorative" dentistry. The program emphasizes efficient, streamlined procedures suitable for today's dental practices, and allows participants the opportunity to manipulate and evaluate products from leading manufacturers. Participants can expect to learn about:
-- Clinical advances in ceramics and resin materials
-- Understanding resin shrinkage
-- Eliminating post-op sensitivity
-- Light curing systems, marketing claims and selection
-- Selecting porcelain material and clinical solutions
-- 3-D measurements and accurate diagnosis
-- Digital radiology and its impact on dentistry
-- Managing worn dentition and reconstruction
-- Occlusion, pain management and clinical diagnosis
-- Impression materials and simpler techniques
-- New progress in provisional restorations

Led by Dr. Arun Nayyar, the program combines the expertise of faculty from the Georgia Tech Research Institute, which is the applied research arm of Georgia Tech, and the Medical College of Georgia's School of Dentistry.

Additional Dental Course Offerings
Two additional seminars will be offered by the Center for Dental Technology in concert with the workshop. The first, "Excellence in Hygiene, Excellence in Restorative Dentistry: Maintaining the Balance," planned for Dec. 12, 2003, offers dental hygienists an opportunity to expand their understanding of the nature of adhesive dentistry. The second seminar, "Treatment Counseling: Consultative Selling for Treatment Plan Acceptance," also scheduled for Dec. 12, 2003, allows dentists and their staffs to learn effective communication techniques that motivate patients to complete treatment plans. Both these courses will also be offered in Georgia Tech's new Global Learning Center in Atlanta, GA.
