Daily I am reminded of the latest innovations and mind-boggling technology that exist in our lives. As I write this article, the television reports on the hand-held wireless computers and PDAs used by our military troops while fighting a war. We are able to watch the events in Iraq in real time with the use of satellites. I watch as our military locates and rescues our POWs. I am especially moved by the rescue of POW Pfc. Jessica Lynch. As a mother, I can only imagine the family's feelings. I am so proud to be an American! I am thankful that we have used this technology appropriately.

This issue of the WDJ focuses on innovations for the dental industry. Many of the advancements are still beyond my understanding. From the start of my dental career when amalgam was compressed through a squeeze cloth to remove excess mercury to the now aesthetic mercury-free restorations, it has been exciting to witness and be a part of the progress of dental technology.

I am also proud to be a part of and serve the American Association of Women Dentists. Every one of us are so blessed with talents and skills. I hope that you will share your experience by committing time and energy to serve AAWD. Included in this issue is a call for nominations for officers and trustees. Please take a moment to evaluate your schedule to consider service to your/our organization.

I hope you are planning to attend our annual conference July 18-20, 2003, in Nashville, Tenn. The registration form can be found in this issue of Chronicle. For more details about the annual conference and for more details about AAWD, please visit our website at www.womendentists.org.
