The Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) will administer a one-day introductory course on lasers in dentistry. HAVE FUN with LASERS offers a comprehensive overview of the clinical applications of lasers in contemporary dental practice. The course is designed for beginners with no prior knowledge of dental lasers.

It will be held on a pre-conference day at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Indian Wells, Palm Springs, Calif., on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. A full range of diagnostic and therapeutic applications for soft tissue and hard tissue will be demonstrated and discussed. Participants will learn the fundamentals of using dental lasers; they will gain a basic understanding of dental laser devices and be better able to make informed decisions about the safe and effective uses of dental laser technology for their patients.

The learning format includes interactive discussions complete with clinical case presentations. The morning three-hour lecture and discussion session will provide a balanced view of the safe and effective uses of dental lasers. Attendees are expected to learn techniques and applications, diagnosis and treatment for hard and soft tissue procedures, treatment objectives, treatment sequence, the effects and results of laser tissue interaction, patient management and healing assessment. Basic laser physics and laser safety considerations will be included.

The three-hour afternoon session allows attendees to experience how lasers work. Attendees are expected to learn surgical technique simulation as well as set-up and operation of various laser systems. Course directors will support participants by answering questions throughout the afternoon. This participation session promises to be interactive and enjoyable. Most of the leading laser manufacturers will provide devices for this course.

As a beginner in the world of dental lasers there are numerous opportunities to learn about the use of dental lasers for patient care. The Academy of Laser Dentistry is dedicated to providing balanced views of the safe and effective uses of dental lasers. This program is open to dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, office managers, researchers, students, industry representatives and anyone interested in lasers in dentistry.
