Emergency room doctors are now more equipped to save teeth in emergency situations with the Save-a-Tooth Kit, introduced by Dr. Harry Babodis, a practicing dentist for the Greenville Dental Clinic in Greenville, S.C., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Among other products, the Save-a-Tooth Kit will contain Den-Mat Corporations Geristore, a resin ionomer used to restore damaged teeth.
The Greenville Dental Clinic has been a long-time user of Geristore. The clinic treats Medicaid patients and sees many children who have had their teeth damaged due to fights, abuse, etc. Since the clinic is not open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, many patients first go to the emergency room when they damage their teeth.
"Many E.R. doctors are reluctant to treat patients with emergency dental problems," said Dr. Babodis. "By the time we see these patients, it is often too late and they end up losing their teeth. The Save-a-Tooth Kit is intended to support the total E.R. effort."
The Save-a-Tooth Kit will first be distributed to emergency rooms throughout Greenville with the intention of eventual nationwide distribution.
