The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund (NBCCF) applauds Delta Dental Plans Association's (DDPA) efforts which have raised over $70,000 to help end breast cancer. At their annual meeting held last month in New Mexico, 79 employees participated in a two-mile walk-a-thon to raise funds for NBCCF. The walk-a-thon was held June 21, 2003 and included participants and sponsors from Delta Dental offices across the country.

The idea for the walk-a-thon arose when a group of spouses decided to do something worthwhile as their partners attended to business at the annual meeting. The walk was co-chaired by Gay VanBrunt and Audrey Levicki, whose husbands are Chairman Walter VanBrunt and Vice-Chairman George Levicki of DDPA.

A recent online auction for Delta Dental employees also contributed to the funds raised for NBCCF. One item, a quilt made by Barbara Wenk, wife of Delta Dental Plan of Tennessee CEO Phil Wenk, was auctioned off for $6,000.

"We appreciate Delta Dental's commitment in helping to end breast cancer. Their effort is a wonderful example of how businesses and their employees can make a difference," said NBCCF President Fran Visco.

The National Breast Cancer Coalition is a grassroots organization dedicated to ending breast cancer through the power of action and advocacy. The Coalition's main goals are to increase federal funding for breast cancer research and collaborate with the scientific community to implement new models of research; improve access to high quality health care and breast cancer clinical trials for all women; and expand the influence of breast cancer advocates in all aspects of the breast cancer decision making process.
