What is the controversy behind Suzanne Somers?

A couple of links foster a better understanding of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

Dear eVillage:

Tell me more about the controversy surrounding Suzanne Somers' latest
book. I do want to know more. I have read the book and have to say I am more
confused than ever about who and what to believe. Thanks in advance.

Penny Cooper, RDH

Dear Penny,

In 2001, Suzanne Somers went public with her diagnosis of breast cancer. The controversy surrounds her choice of using alternative medicines to treat her cancer. Please note that it has been reported that she did have surgery and radiation therapy. She became a breast cancer advocate and worked on the American Breast Cancer Guide to educate and encourage others. Her alternative medicines involved bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. I have provided some links to jump-start your investigation.

Thank you for reading,
