Tobacco use in HPV-positive oropharynx cancer patients related to increased risk

Current tobacco users with advanced, HPV-positive SCCOP are at higher risk of disease recurrence compared with never-tobacco users.

Patient's prognosis with HPV-positive tumors that also have to have a history of tobacco use is not likely to be as good as their fellow HPV-positive patients who have never smoked, according to a new study published in the February 15 issue of Clinical Cancer Research.
