Eastman Kodak Company�s dental business has announced that the outstanding success of its latest intraoral x-ray film, Kodak InSight Intraoral Dental Film, has led to the decision to discontinue Kodak Ektaspeed Plus Intraoral Dental Film by the end of this year.
"The enthusiastic response from dentists to our new Kodak InSight Film has been tremendous," said Ruth K. Arbuckle, worldwide analog imaging product line manager, Kodak dental business. "They love the image quality and the reduced radiation exposure.
"This outstanding response caused us to rethink our intraoral film portfolio," Arbuckle continued. "Ultimately, we realized that a complement of InSight Film and our D-Speed film, Ultra-speed Intraoral Dental Film, made the most sense from a customer value perspective."
Ultra-speed Film, Arbuckle added, is considered a classic film by dentists, many of whom have used it for decades, while Kodak InSight Intraoral Film has emerged as the new gold standard in intraoral dental film.
Kodak InSight Film was launched in 2000 and over 90 million packets have been sold worldwide since that time. By incorporating state-of-the-art x-ray film technology, it lets dentists reduce radiation dosage to the lowest level possible with any intraoral x-ray film on the market today. A simple exposure time change is all that is needed to make the conversion. Dentists who currently use a D-Speed film, such as Kodak Ultra-speed Film, can lower their radiation exposure times by as much as 60 percent by switching to InSight Film. Compared to Kodak Ektaspeed Plus Film, an E-Speed film, dentists can lower their radiation exposure times by as much as 20 percent. Reduction in exposure times is the only change needed to convert to the new Kodak InSight Film. No other changes in exposure technique or processing conditions are required.
In addition to reduced radiation exposures, Kodak InSight Film also offers excellent imaging characteristics. It delivers a sharp, high-contrast image that holds true in variable processing conditions better than any other intraoral film on the market.
Kodak has full availability of all sizes of InSight Film now. Kodak Ektaspeed Plus Film will be discontinued when supplies of current stock are depleted.
