The American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation (ACPEF) will honor Susan E. "Betsy" Brackett, D.D.S., M.S., F.A.C.P., at its Annual Session in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace on Oct. 10 at the ACPEF Donor Recognition Reception. ACPEF Chair Dr. Lily T. Garcia will present Dr. Brackett with a medallion for its highest honor--ACPEF Founders Society Award. Dr. Brackett joins Dr. Thomas J. McGarry as the second Oklahoma City board certified prosthodontist to win this honor.
"I was raised to give back," said Dr. Betsy Brackett. "After putting myself through dental school and then a post-doctoral program to become a dental specialist—a prosthodontist—my husband and I decided to help students today receive grants and funding to pursue their education as prosthodontists."
An avid sports fan and a dance aficionado, Dr. Brackett is the Chair of Education and Outreach on the Board of Trustees for the Oklahoma City Ballet, an officer for the American College of Prosthodontists as its secretary, and recently received an honorary degree from the University of Oklahoma. In addition, Dr. Brackett is a local private practice prosthodontist at Implant & Prosthodontic Associates. She is dedicated to providing her patients with the ultimate in personalized restorative care with the goal of achieving each individual's ideal smile. This prosthodontic specialty practice combines the vision and artistry of an architect with the special skills of a master craftsman to create both oral health and the beauty of an extraordinary smile.
One of her patients, Shannon, shared, "I had waited so long to have an implant done on my front tooth, I wanted it to be perfect. Dr. Brackett sat down with me, talked to me about my expectations and watched me speak, and smile. I liken it to the difference of buying custom-made clothes versus buying off the rack. I'm so pleased with the result."
Like medicine, dentistry has taken incredible leaps forward in the past decade. Prosthodontists are specialized dentists with advanced training in oral health issues, who are committed to improving patient outcomes. The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization whose membership is based solely on education credentials. ACP members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in prosthodontics.
"Giving back and contributing time to philanthropic causes can reap many unseen benefits," said Dr. Brackett. "Working for the ACPEF, I recruited a young prosthodontist from another state to help with the Annual Appeal—he's now a partner in our Oklahoma City practice."
