Company will design new clinic for the Fones School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut--Antinozzi Associates has announced that it has been commissioned to design a new clinic for the Fones School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Bridgeport.

The Fones School of Dental Hygiene is moving to the Health Science Center at the University and will consolidate community clinic functions into one building. The floor plan will improve privacy between the clinic's 30 treatment areas while allowing increased visual supervision by instructors.

Also, students will now learn in a more office-like setting using modern, technologically up-to-date equipment, all to support their transition into the work force.

"Antinozzi Associates has done several projects for the University of Bridgeport over more than 25 years, from the renovation of Carlson Hall in the early 1980s to the design of a seminar room just recently," said Neil Albert Salonen, president of the university, said.

"We recognize their talents and are confident they will provide a clinic design that will meet our goals. We know all of us will take pride in this new Fones clinic."

"We are really excited about the renovation of the clinic at the Fones School," said Paul Antinozzi, president of Antinozzi Associates.

"The new design will enable the school to provide better services to patients and students, as well as compete with other dental hygiene schools around the state, attracting more students and clinic patients. It was very important that the design of this school accommodate new dental technology that the students need for their competitive edge. Clearly, the new design will help to reposition the Fones School of Dental Hygiene."

The goal of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene is to provide students with a balance of academic studies and clinical experience, including responsibility for patient care. The students may choose from three dental hygiene programs: a two-year Associate in Science degree, a Bachelor of Science degree, and a Bachelor of Science degree online.

The facility is staffed and supervised by licensed dental hygienists and dentists. Dental hygiene students must have extensive education and training and have demonstrated competence in clinical services before being allowed to treat patients. The school is accredited by the state Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Post-secondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.

The school serves about 1,500 clients in its Bridgeport campus clinic and another 1,500 in community health centers throughout the region, providing low cost dental hygiene services to children, adults and the elderly. Fones students also serve another 9,000 students with exams and through teaching oral health technique in schools, day care and community centers, and senior centers.
