Two new members elected to ADEA Board of Directors

Drs. Sandra Andrieu and Sheila Koh appointed to three-year terms of office at ADEA's recent Annual Session.

At the 82nd ADEA Annual Session held recently in Baltimore, Md., two new Vice Presidents of the Association were elected to three-year terms of office.

Dr. Sandra Andrieu, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) School of Dentistry, was elected Vice President for Sections; and Dr. Sheila Koh, Associate Professor, Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch, was elected Vice President for Hospitals and Advanced Education Programs.

In addition to becoming Vice Presidents of their councils, these individuals serve as members of the ADEA Board of Directors.

Formerly Chair-Elect of the Administrative Board of the Council of Sections, Dr. Andrieu served on the Administrative Board of the ADEA Section on Academic Affairs from 1996 to 1999 and as Councilor of that section from 1999 to 2002. She was named to the AADS Educational Affairs Advisory Committee, serving from 1994 to 1999.

A member of the faculty of the LSUHSC School of Dentistry since 1978, she has served on numerous committees including those with responsibility for academic performance advancement, development of competency statements, accreditation, strategic planning, and curriculum-a committee she has chaired since 1994.

The author or coauthor of many articles, abstracts, and professional presentations, Dr. Andrieu has been President of the Louisiana Dental Hygiene Association, is currently President of the Theta Kappa Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Dental Society, and received the LSUHSC 1999 Pfizer Award for Excellence in Research, Education, and Patient Care.

She holds a B.S. in Dental Hygiene from the LSU School of Dentistry and earned an M.Ed. with special emphasis in curriculum and a Ph.D. in educational administration with special emphasis on Higher Education from the University of New Orleans.

Formerly Secretary of the Administrative Board of ADEA's Council of Hospitals and Advanced Education Programs, Dr. Koh is also a member of ADEA's Annual Session Planning Committee and helped organize the first ADEA Advanced Education Summit in November 2004.

She was the Harry W. Bruce Legislative Fellow in 2003-04 and served on the administrative board of ADEA's Section on Postdoctoral General Dentistry from 1999 to 2002 and on the ADEA Legislative Advisory Committee from 1999 to 2004. At the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch (UTHHSC), Dr. Koh is also Director of Government Funded Training Projects and has played a major role in acquiring GME funding since 1999.

Formerly Director of the AEGD program at UTHHSC, she has served as a HRSA grant reviewer, has received numerous Dean's Teaching Excellence Awards, and published many articles and abstracts. She is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Dentists, and Delta Sigma Delta. She received her D.D.S. degree from UTHHSC, completed the GPR residency training at UTHHSC and Hermann Hospital, and has practiced in the greater Houston area.

Also at the 2005 ADEA Annual Session, Dr. Eric J. Hovland, Dean and Professor of Endodontics, Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, became ADEA President for 2005-06, and Dr. Kenneth Kalkwarf, Dean of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School, was elected ADEA President-Elect.
