Award

A Certificate of Recognition and one cash award in the amount of $2,000 will be made. This award is intended to provide travel and other support related to attending the IADR annual meeting and participating in the Oral Health Research Group activities. IADR/Colgate Research in Prevention Travel Awards

The IADR is inviting applications from young investigators for a travel award for submitted abstracts, which have a preventive component.

Eligibility

Young investigators (up to five years post-graduation from dental, dental hygiene, specialty training, or pre-PhD) are eligible to apply for a travel award. Entrants must provide a verification letter of their status. In addition, entrants can only be awarded once for this award.

Applications

To apply you must select the IADR/Colgate Research in Prevention Travel Awards and fill out the eligibility requirements when submitting your abstract for the IADR 84th General Session in Brisbane, Australia.

Applicants must also submit electronically a separate and more detailed overview of their projects (2 pages, double-spaced), including how the research will affect the prevention of the condition stated.

The overview must be received in the Central Office no later than February 3, 2006, for the application to be considered. Please submit the overview electronically to Sheri Herren, [email protected].

Research topic

Submissions must represent original research in the area of oral disease prevention (caries, gingivitis, periodontics, xerostomia, oral cancer, and any other oral disease or condition). In addition to research on various preventive agents, the Committee will consider submissions that focus on preventive programs, demonstration projects, or community programs, provided outcomes are measured and reported.

Award

Six awards will be granted — one person from each of the following areas: North America (Canada and the United States), South America (including Mexico), Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia/New Zealand.

The winner of each award will receive US $2,000 for expenses to attend the IADR/AADR General Session.

The successful applicants must first have their abstracts accepted by the appropriate IADR Group for presentation and then be selected by the Awards Committee. The Committee's decision will be made in February 2006, and winners will be notified immediately. The award winners will be formally announced at the Opening Ceremonies of the IADR General Session on June 28, 2006. If selected for the award, the paper must be presented at the meeting (no presenter substitutions allowed).
