Stipends help recipients attend educational course at Pankey Institute.

Four U.S. dental schools were awarded one scholarship each to send one dental student or graduate resident to attend the educational course, "Professional Dental Journalism", presented by The Center for Professional Journalism at The Pankey Institute, in Key Biscayne, Fla.

The course, attended by dentists and other dental professionals as well as the scholarship recipients, was held Aug. 24-26 at The Pankey Institute.

The scholarships were granted by the following dental companies: Ivoclar Vivadent (granted to State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine); Captek (granted to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine); Sirona (granted to University of North Carolina School of Dentistry); and Align Technology (granted to New York University College of Dentistry).

"These scholarships will introduce the world of dental journalism to young dental professionals in the initial phase of their careers," states Dr. Phillip Bonner, founder and Director of The Center for Professional Journalism at The Pankey Institute. "The dental profession needs good writers who not only know how to effectively communicate via the written word, but know how to get their works published. This is what the course, "Professional Dental Journalism" teaches, and we are grateful to those companies who had the foresight and initiative to provide scholarship assistance to these students."
