AAWD: President’s Letter
This month we will install our 2008 AAWD Board of Directors. As Dr. Lilia Larin prepares to become president on Jan. 1, 2008, I am preparing to step into the position of immediate past president.
It’s been a great year so far, and it’s not over yet. At our Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs in July, we elected a 2008 Board of Directors that includes three new faces: Drs. Lee Ann Brady, Cherae Farmer-Dixon, and Pia Chatterjee Kirk.
Dr. Lee Ann Brady is director of communications. She began her career as an associate in Gainesville, Fla., where she also taught part time as a clinical instructor at Santa Fe Community College Hygiene School. In 1993, Dr. Brady established a private practice in Atlanta. Currently, she is the full-time clinical director in residence at The Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Fla. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Brady is on the editorial review board of Dental Practice Report.
Dr. Cherae Farmer-Dixon is the director of public health. She is the associate dean for student affairs in the School of Dentistry and an associate professor in the Department of Dental Public Health at Meharry Medical College. She also serves as chairwoman of the Dental Admissions Committee and dental director of the Health Careers Opportunity Program. Dr. Farmer-Dixon has been involved in research activities that have dealt with oral health disparities, caries in low-income children, community outreach and intervention, and addressing minority dental school enrollment. Her research endeavors have led to presentations and publications at local, national, and international meetings. She has also received numerous awards from local, state, and national organizations as well as from her students.
Dr. Pia Chatterjee Kirk is director of learning opportunities. She is an assistant professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Dentistry. She was the coordinator of the national women’s symposium highlighting the impact of women on dentistry, “The Dental Monologues: Evolution of Women in Dentistry,” in Jackson, Miss., in 2006. Dr. Chatterjee Kirk was also featured on the cover of the October 2006 Woman Dentist Journal.
Our Annual Board Installation Dinner will be Friday, Sept. 28 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. Please plan to be there as we install these women and the entire 2008 Board of Directors.
