Dr. Sandra Harris
Dr. Sandra Harris resides in Nashville, Tenn., where she is an associate professor at Meharry Medical College in the School of Dentistry. She obtained her dental degree from Meharry and completed her orthodontic training at Howard University. Besides an academic career, she also has a part-time orthodontic practice in Goodlettsville, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville.
Since 1987, Dr. Harris has been a faculty member at Meharry where her responsibilities include serving as chairperson of the Department of Orthodontics, the Student Evaluation & Promotion Committee, and the Student Honors & Awards Committee. From 1993 through 1999, she chaired the Dental Admissions Committee and the Student Recruitment Committee at Meharry.
Dr. Harris has been involved with various leadership conferences sponsored by the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Education Association, and other organizations. In 1999, she was among the first group of fellows to participate in ADEA's Leadership Institute. She has also served for the past two years in the House of Delegates of the Tennessee Dental Association. Besides her membership in AAWD, she is a member of AAO, SAO, TAO, ADA, TDA, NDA, ADEA, Nashville Dental Society, and the Continental Orthodontic Study Club.
For the past three years, Dr. Harris has served as faculty advisor of the AAWD student chapter at Meharry Medical College. She especially enjoys mentoring dental students and has received awards from students and alumni at Meharry in recognition of her achievements and dedication to the students in the School of Dentistry.
