Online tool offered to consumers to help manage dental costs

Aetna has announced a new online consumer information tool, Price-A-Dental Procedure, to help members better understand and plan for prospective dental work.

"As consumers look to get more involved in managing their personal health care costs, we are improving our online interactive tools to offer members accurate, objective and credible cost information," said Scott Schnuckle, head of Aetna Dental. "This offering will allow members to make the most informed decision concerning their dental care."

Price-A-Dental Procedure joins a suite of online tools offered through Aetna Navigator(TM), Aetna's member self-service website with personalized benefits information and health content. Those tools include a hospital cost comparison tool, a search engine called DocFind(R) to help members find a doctor or dentist, and cost comparison tools like Price-A-Drug and Price-A-Medical Procedure. Aetna Navigator also includes an online survey to evaluate health care providers.

This latest consumer-friendly Aetna offering is available to members of Aetna Dental PPO-based programs, as well as people enrolling in Vital Savings by Aetna(SM), the company's new dental discount program. The tool can be found in the "Tools to Manage My Healthcare" area on the Aetna Navigator site. It provides a list of common dental procedures and corresponding fees by region, to give consumers a guide as to what dental work will cost.
