PennWell announces new magazine -- Woman Dentist Journal
PennWell Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of a new publication, Woman Dentist Journal.
Woman Dentist Journal is the first and only publication specifically addressing the unique needs of women dentists. January/February 2003 marks the first issue of this new journal, which will be published six times a year initially. Woman Dentist Journal will cover a wide variety of topics: clinical dentistry, scientific abstracts, practice management, lifestyle issues, and more.
PennWell developed Woman Dentist Journal in response to growing numbers of female dentists and dental students who have a need for a forum in dentistry. In a recent survey of women dentists conducted by PennWell, more than 50 percent of respondents owned their own practice and 46 percent do more than 10 crowns per month. When asked, "If there were a line of dental products/equipment designed especially for female dentists, would you try them even if you were happy with the current products you were using," 74 percent of those surveyed replied they would. This reflects women dentists' desire for more dental products that are ergonomically designed for the way they practice.
A strong addition to Woman Dentist Journal is Dr. Margaret Scarlett, managing editor. Dr. Scarlett is an accomplished clinician, scientist, lecturer, and policy expert on infectious diseases and infection control. She became the first author of the original infection-control guidelines for dentists issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and worked for many years to prevent the transmission of bloodborne diseases in oral health-care settings. From 1997 to 2000, she served as a senior policy analyst in the office on Women's Health and the office of HIV/AIDS Policy for the Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Scarlett is president of Scarlett Consulting, Inc., an international health consulting company. In addition to serving a two-year stint in the U.S. Army Reserve, 350th Medical Detachment, she retired in early 2001 as Captain (0-6, Navy equivalent rank) from the CDC after a distinguished 20-year career.
