Periodontal therapy and perioscopy: a new nonsurgical option

FOCUS Editorial Director Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, MS, says that the article The Symbiotic Relationship between Perioscopy and LANAP in the Treatment of Periodontal Disease: A New Paradigm in Therapy by Suzanne Newkirk, RDH, and Robert Gottlieb, DDS, is an attempt to demonstrate the value of using the Perioscope for periodontal therapy. This issue presents outcomes and clinical studies from the article related to surgical and nonsurgical treatment plans.

In this newsletter, we have the pleasure of another article by Suzanne Newkirk, RDH, and Dr. Bob Gottlieb. Suzanne is a periodontal therapist, dental hygiene coach and mentor. She is a Perioscopy instructor and speaker and is listed on the Seattle Study Club Speakers Bureau List. Dr. Gottlieb received his Certificate in Periodontics from the University of Washington, has been practicing for 35 years, and was voted one of Seattle’s Best Dentists. They are very qualified to write on the topic of periodontal therapy using a perioscope.

"The Symbiotic Relationship between Perioscopy and LANAP in the Treatment of Periodontal Disease: A New Paradigm In Therapy" is the authors’ endeavor to demonstrate the value of using the Perioscope. We may want to consider referring a patient earlier for evaluation when we see areas of breakdown that will not resolve; as they may be due to something we are unable to see.
