Crest and Oral-B announced that Heather Steich, RDH, is the first winner of the Pros in the Profession awards program, which celebrates the tireless efforts of registered dental hygienists who work to further oral health causes.
Steich, who based in San Francisco, has “exemplified the qualities of a true Pro in the Profession by going above and beyond her daily duties in making a difference in the lives of her community,” according to an announcement by Crest and Oral-B. In its third year, the Crest + Oral-B Pros in the Profession program recognizes hygienists for “their unwavering commitment to improving oral health.”

Steich said she loves connecting with patients since each one has a different story. In 2013, she went to Honduras with a dental volunteer trip. She enjoyed the experience so much that she has already planned to attend this coming year’s trip, and will take part for many years to come. She found this experience in Honduras “humbling” as she was treating patients who might not have doors on their house, or even a toothbrush. Heather plans on using some of the winnings to assist in the funding of her future trips to Honduras and purchasing the supplies she would need for several years to come.
As an award recipient, Steich will receive an all-expense paid trip to the Procter & Gamble German Innovation Center at Kronberg, Germany; $1,000 monetary prize; a recognition plaque; and acknowledgment in dental periodicals, on the Crest + Oral-B Dental Professionals Facebook page, and on Dentalcare.com.
In order to be considered for the Pros in the Profession program, nominees must have two or more years of clinical/professional experience after graduating from dental hygiene school; participate in community service; and provide examples of exceptional work.
