RDH Under One Roof will also have a track on Friday, January 31. Courses offered on the RDH track include "Women's Oral Health Through the Life Stages," "Sex and Oral Health: What’s the Connection?," "Meth Mouth and Dental Considerations," and "Shining the Spotlight on New Products! Launched Since Yankee Dental Congress 2013."
The course "Women's Oral Health Through the Life Stages" will be taught by Maria Perno-Goldie, RDH, BA, MS, and will focus on a comprehensive review of women's oral health care needs from puberty through menopause. Different topics, including eating disorders, oral contraceptive use, pregnancy, lactation, menopause, hormone replacement therapy, and osteoporosis, will be presented. The course is offered from 8:00—10:00 a.m.
The course "Sex and Oral Health: What’s the Connection?" will be taught by Jo-Anne Jones, RDH, and will focus on the growing need for dental professionals to be educated on the emergence of viral, sexually transmitted diseases affecting the oral cavity. Jones will review the extraoral and intraoral examination, and will also introduce an innovative device that is designed to address this growing health concern. The course is offered from 10:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m.
The course "Meth Mouth and Dental Considerations" will be taught by Noel Kelsch, RDHAP, and will focus on the growing number of people exhibiting oral complications from methamphetamine use and dental professionals' need to be informed of this trend, as Kelsch has observed an uptick in the number of dental patients exhibiting these symptoms in the past few years. Kelsch personally searched for information about the affects of methamphetamine use, which she turned into a toolkit of information for dental professionals so that they can successfully treat and/or refer these patients. This course is offered from 2:00—4:00 p.m.
Finally, the course "Shining the Spotlight on New Products! Launched Since Yankee Dental Congress 2013" will be taught by Tricia Osuna, RDH, BSDH, FAADH, and will inform dental professionals of new technologies, products, and equipment launched since the last YDC. Participants will learn how new advancements can be used in dental hygiene practice as well as how they will benefit their patients and practice. This course also is offered from 2:00—4:00 p.m.
YDC is the fifth largest dental meeting in the country and is sponsored by the Massachusetts Dental Society, in cooperation with the dental associations of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
