Coronavirus impact on dental practices: Dentist vs. hygienist—two perspectives on reopening offices (Video)
Yes. The divide between dentists and hygienists during these uncertain times is real. Legislation is even becoming introduced to try to calm the waters.
In this video, Pamela Maragliano-Muniz, DMD, and Amber Auger, MPH, RDH, remove their “friend hats” to present the two sides. The two agree that each group needs to see the other group’s side of the story, but Dr. Maragliano-Muniz jumps right in to the discussion by asking Amber, “What is hygienists’ problem?”
Amber is quick with a response, starting with what RDHs believe is a lack of communication. Almost 60% of hygienists report that they have not heard from their bosses since doors closed. Another concern is proper personal protective equipment. Will they have it when they go back, and will it be enough? Aerosols are another area of concern.
Dr. Maragliano-Muniz responds as a practice owner and leader of her practice. The two agree that no one can picture the new normal, but working together will achieve more and serve patients better.
