JOSHUA AUSTIN, DDS, MAGD, ENVIES THOSE DENTISTS who are talented at biomimetic direct composite restorations. Fortunately for him, there's an instrument that allows him to cheat to achieve the same results: the OptraSculpt Next Generation composite contouring instrument from Ivoclar Vivadent.

Like the OptraSculpt Pad, this contouring instrument features nonstick attachments for shaping composite. While the OptraSculpt Pad is ideal for anterior teeth, the OptraSculpt Next Generation instrument has a ball, a chisel, and a pointed-tip (like a PKT) attachment to help with adding anatomy to posterior restorations.
