The most successful oral health-care professionals are well aware that professional development matters. It helps enhance patient care, earning potential and pride in the profession—paving the way toward a rewarding and fulfilling career. That’s why the DALE Foundation, the official affiliate of the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB), created the Liz Koch Memorial Scholarship. The program gives dental auxiliaries the opportunity to turn their professional development goals into reality.
The DALE Foundation is accepting applications for the 2017 Liz Koch Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship program seeks to further the careers of oral health-care professionals by encouraging lifelong learning. It is open to all dental assistants, DANB certificants, and other dental auxiliaries. The deadline to apply is May 25.

Winners will be chosen based on their commitment to the oral health care profession and mentorship experiences. They will each receive between $250 and $1,000. The scholarship recipients may use the funds for professional development activities, such as continuing education courses, dental conferences, DANB certifications, and college courses. They will also receive three continuing education products of their choice from the DALE Foundation.
Since the Liz Koch Memorial Scholarship was launched in 2014, the DALE Foundation has awarded scholarships to 13 oral health-care professionals. Last year’s first-place winners were Alvin Hsieh, CDA, who is using his award to renew DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification and earn DANB Certified Preventive Functions Dental Assistant (CPFDA) certification, and Katrina Knapp, CDA, who is using her scholarship to complete dental hygiene school and earn a bachelor’s degree. In addition, the DALE Foundation has honored 39 finalists for their efforts by providing them with continuing education opportunities.
The DALE Foundation established the scholarship in memory of Liz Koch, who served as Chief Operating Officer of DANB and the DALE Foundation before her untimely passing in 2011. This scholarship commemorates Liz’s many years of service and contributions to dental assistants and embodies her belief in the power of lifelong learning.
“Liz was a strong believer in the potential of others to excel through continuing education and lifelong learning,” says Cindy Durley, M.Ed., MBA, Executive Director of DANB and the DALE Foundation. “We are proud to give back to the dental community in a way that promotes her commitment to lifelong learning and mentorship.”
