“Show me the money!” is a well-known line from the 1996 movie “Jerry Maguire.” But, before we can be shown the money, we have to be comfortable talking about it.
So the dental team can feel confident recommending care that benefits patient health. We tend to focus our training and education around understanding the clinical importance of treatment.
We often hear about the challenging personal financial health that many dental team members and dentists are experiencing today. An unexplored area is addressing uncomfortable money situations, as well as the resistance to discussing fees and making financial arrangements. Many find it easier to avoid dealing with a “money” conversation with a patient, hoping it will resolve itself.
The thing about money is: Money comes through people. Bringing compassionate awareness to your relationship dynamics will help increase case acceptance and favorable financial arrangements.
